Islands on the Brink
Amid rising seas and disappearing forests, one man is leading a grassroots effort to reforest the mangroves of Zanzibar. This short film follows his mission to revive the island’s coastal ecosystems one seedling at a time.
As climate change and deforestation accelerate, Zanzibar’s mangroves, vital nurseries for fish and natural buffers against erosion, are rapidly vanishing. Without them, entire villages face collapse, and the island’s unique biodiversity is under threat, including the endangered red colobus monkey, found nowhere else on Earth.
But through community-led replanting and deep local knowledge, a quiet movement is taking root and offering hope for the island’s future.
